The San Diego area was hit by a mild earthquake Friday, marking the fifth consecutive day of tremors in the area.
Friday’s quake, which occurred at 2:51 a.m., and registered 3.0 on the Richter scale, was the 12th to shake the area during the five-day period. Officials of the California Institute of Technology said the quake was centered offshore, about 30 miles northwest of San Diego.
Earlier temblors ranged in strength from 2.5 to 4.2 and originated in the Rose Canyon Fault under San Diego Bay near Coronado.
