Immunity was granted to Anthony Insana, the prosecution’s star witness in the Oakland conspiracy and grand theft trial of Salvatore Bonanno, son of reputed Mafia boss Joe Bonanno. Until immunity was granted over the objections of defense attorney Charles Garry, Insana had refused to answer questions from state Deputy Atty. Gen. Derald Granberg in Alameda County Superior Court. Bonanno is accused of bilking elderly people out of $118,000 in a home improvement scheme.
