COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Tamil guerrillas killed 19 people Wednesday in their latest attack in Sri Lanka’s troubled Eastern Province, security sources said. The guerrillas stormed into the village of Dehiwatte, killing 14 Sinhalese people, then blew up an army convoy, killing four soldiers and a policeman, they said.
Tamils, who make up 12.6% of this island nation’s 15 million people, are demanding a separate state in Northern and Eastern provinces.
