Rising malpractice insurance premiums are making obstetric care in California more expensive and less available, according to results of a survey announced in San Francisco by the California Medical Assn. One-quarter of the doctors--gynecologists and general practitioners--who responded to a questionnaire from the association said they have either stopped delivering babies or are considering such a move. The survey also showed that such a decision would mean that their patients would have difficulty finding adequate obstetric care.
