Newport Beach : Coastal Panel Approves Building of 66 Houses
The Coastal Commission on Thursday approved construction of 66 single-family homes in Newport Beach that are part of a larger 888-unit residential and retail development at the northeast corner of Jamboree Road and Bison Avenue.
The 66 homes, located on a 22-acre tract within the Irvine Co.’s North Ford Planned Community, are in a part of the development that falls under Coastal Commission jurisdiction. The unanimous approval Thursday was the last hurdle before construction could begin.
Dave Dmohowski, government relations director for the Irvine Co., said construction crews already are grading the site, and building will begin by October or November.
The 125-acre development will include 172 single-family homes, 120 condominiums and 596 apartments. Also slated for the development is a retail area on a five-acre parcel in the southern end of the site, which could include a supermarket, specialty shops and movie theater.
