Torrance
The City Council has approved spending nearly $20,000 to lease 255 acre-feet of ground-water pumping rights from the Allied Corp.
The city Water Department for several years has diversified its source of water supply by obtaining additional ground-water pumping rights by lease or purchase, usually at a saving compared to purchasing from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the primary source of water for cities in Los Angeles County.
For the last four years, the city has obtained one-year leases from Allied. This year’s rate is $78 an acre-foot, $19,890 for 255 acre-feet of water from the West Basin Water Replenishment District.
