Paramedic Fee Approved:A voluntary subscription rate of $24 per year for paramedic service was set by the City Council Tuesday. Visitors and others who don’t subscribe will be charged between $75 and $125 per emergency call, the council agreed in a 4-1 vote. The fees will help offset the cost of running the city’s emergency system, about $2.7 million annually. The subscription fee is expected to generate between $500,000 and $750,000 per year, Fire Chief Bob Simpson said. Simpson said a committee with council members and residents will determine which individual cases may be exempt from the fee because of hardship.
