The World : New Salvador Talks Urged

Salvadoran guerrillas proposed that a new round of peace talks with the U.S.-backed government of President Jose Napoleon Duarte be held June 15 at the town of Perquin in rebel-held territory. At a news conference in Mexico City, representatives of the rebels’ Democratic Revolutionary Front also proposed that both sides hold a “preparatory meeting” May 30-31 in San Salvador. There was no immediate response from the Duarte government, which has been negotiating for talks.
