Baltimore’s prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Medicine said it will scrap its medical admissions test to attract a more diverse crop of future doctors and urged other schools to follow its lead. The latest move to end the “premed syndrome†of early specialization and an over-emphasis on science courses would take effect in September, 1986. Medical School Dean Richard Ross challenged other universities to demonstrate their commitment to a liberal arts education by making the Medical College Admissions Test optional.
