Reagan Paid His Dues in World War II

I read with extreme interest and amusement Lee’s letter.

As a member of the Army in Europe, Normandy to Germany with a stop at the Battle of the Bulge, I consider I had an aging experience.

Reagan’s 3 1/2 years with the First Motion Picture Unit would hardly qualify you for aging service. Let’s see, the front was Hollywood and Vine, not bad service. Tailor-made uniforms, after all, we couldn’t have our great and fearless leader not looking just right for his poses for the movie magazines telling the folks what a tough war it is. I believe the most that could have happened to Ronnie, was that he got a little mustard on his tailor-made pants or, God forbid, a hair out of place.

No, Reagan is not entitled to make any kind of gesture he wants. As far as World War II is concerned, he hasn’t made a good down payment and is no way qualified or he would not be even thinking about going to a Germany cemetery where Nazi SS troops are degrading the ground.

How Lee could compare Reagan’s movie career to James Stewart, Clark Gable and William Holden I don’t really know. The reason their careers took off is quite simple: they could act and were sought after because of talent.
