A burglary suspect shot by a San Diego police detective Friday afternoon while attempting to flee a Pacific Beach home was listed in fair condition at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Miguel Cruz Cabrera, 19, of downtown San Diego, was shot in the back by Sgt. Alvin Beckett after the plainclothes detective confronted Cabrera and a 16-year-old boy outside a Bayonne Drive home, a police spokesman said.
Beckett reportedly shouted warnings for the two men to stop when one of the men reached for his back pocket, the spokesman said. Beckett fired one shot from his service revolver.
Before the shooting, uniformed police officers reported spotting two men inside the home, one holding a shotgun and the other a rifle. Both Cabrera and the youth youth were booked on suspicion of burglary.
