China agreed to buy 200 locomotives from GE.
The deal, worth about $230 million, calls for a transfer of technology in training the Chinese on how to maintain the diesel-electric locomotives. It calls for the locomotives to leave General Electric’s transportation division in Erie, Pa., by next March, and for GE to provide spare parts to be stored in Shanghai. GE also agreed to have the 2,400 wheels for the locomotives manufactured in Dalian and Datong, China.
