Women’s Panel Backs Porno Proposal

Despite a warning that the proposal is unconstitutional, the Los Angeles County Commission for Women Monday reaffirmed its support for a law declaring pornography is sex discrimination.

The commission asked that the ordinance be sent back to the Board of Supervisors for action in two weeks. In the interim, commission members will meet with county attorneys and other staff to discuss changes that might make the law withstand a court challenge.

Last month, county attorneys advised the supervisors that the law would be an unconstitutional impairment of free speech. The board decided to withhold action on the matter until the commission could suggest word changes that would make the proposed law constitutional.
