2 Trains Collide in Mexico; 18 Die

MEXICO CITY — A crowded passenger train plowed into a freight convoy beginning to leave a siding in a town east of the capital today. Police said at least 18 people died and 82 were injured.
Edmundo Espinoza Mota, police chief at Apizaco in Tlaxcala state, said the crash occurred outside Soltepec Station, 94 miles east of Mexico City. The passenger train was bound from Veracruz to Mexico City when it crashed into the freight train, the police chief said.
