PARIS — An Armenian terrorist jailed near Paris has hanged himself in his cell, the French Justice Ministry reported Saturday.
Aram Basmadjian, convicted of a 1981 attack at the Turkish Consulate in Paris, hanged himself Friday night from his cell bars in the Fleury-Merogis prison south of Paris, a ministry spokeswoman said.
Basmadjian, a member of the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia, and three others were convicted and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for the attack, in which a Turkish guard was killed.
