The Region : Diet Pill Firm Will Pay $162,500 Fine
A Van Nuys company that sells pills that it claims make dieters “dream away†unwanted pounds while sleeping agreed to halt sales in California and pay a $162,500 fine to settle a false advertising suit filed by Ventura County. Nutri-Market Co. officials said “Dream Away “pills will continue to be sold in other states. A 42-tablet jar of the pills is sold by mail for $19.95. Richard Brungard, a Ventura County deputy district attorney, said, “The only part of the product that worked was the 1,200-calorie diet that you were supposed to follow after buying the pills.†The firm began a $2-million television ad cammpaign last year.
