7 NATO Nations Plan Exercises
MONS, Belgium — Troops from seven NATO nations will participate in the annual training exercise of the Allied Command Europe Mobile Force April 22 to May 7 in Portugal, NATO’s European military headquarters announced Friday.
The exercise will be based at Santa Margarida training camp, 75 miles northeast of Lisbon.
About 1,500 troops from Belgium, Britain, Canada, Italy, Portugal, the United States and West Germany are to participate.
The Allied Command Europe Mobile Force was created in 1960 to give the North Atlantic Treaty Organization a conventionally armed group that could respond quickly to military threats in the West European region.
