Lamar Athlete Jumps 7-3, Takes Lead in Decathlon

AUSTIN, Tex. — Lamar’s Thomas Eriksson set a collegiate decathlon high jump record of 7 feet 3 inches as he took the first-day lead Wednesday in the Texas Relays decathlon.
Eriksson also won the long jump with a leap of 24-1 1/2 as he compiled 4,110 points on the first day of the 10-event competition.
Carol Lewis of Houston took the first-day lead in the women’s heptathlon. She won the high hurdles in 13.83 seconds, tied for first in the high jump (6-0), and took third in the shotput (39-5) and second in the 200 meters (24.51).
