A new Coalition for Fair Political Practices announced that it will monitor campaigns for the Los Angeles municipal election April 9 to watch for appeals based on racial, ethnic, religious or sexual orientation prejudice. Coalition spokesman Julian Keiser, executive director of the Community Relations Conference of Southern California, said the group has not come across any such appeals in races for municipal, school board and community college board offices. He said that the coalition has asked candidates to sign fair practice pledges to “prevent political campaign rhetoric and tactics which poison (the) climate.”
