Pentagon Asks for Refunds

WASHINGTON — Air Force Secretary Verne Orr, citing results of an internal Pentagon audit, has asked two of the nation’s largest defense contractors to voluntarily refund $208 million worth of “unreasonable profits,†according to letters released today.
Orr cited the audit results in letters to the chief executives of United Technologies Corp. and General Electric Co. and requested voluntary refunds. The alleged excess profits were from spare parts provided for jet engines.
