Entertainment Industry: SCR 31 by Sen. Herschel Rosenthal (D-Los Angeles) would create a joint legislative committee on the motion picture, television, commercial and recording industries to encourage those businesses to stay in California.

Miscellany Name Change: Assemblywoman Jean M. Moorhead (D-Citrus Heights) became Assemblywoman Jean M. Duffy after marrying Gov. George Deukmejian’s secretary of environmental affairs, Gordon Duffy, a Republican, last weekend in Reno. “I’m old-fashioned,” she said. “I believe I have a wonderful husband, and that’s the name I’m going to use.” It was the third marriage for both. Crime Conference: Atty. Gen. John Van de Kamp and the UCLA School of Law will sponsor “Crime Conference 85: Why is Crime Down?” on Thursday and Friday in Haines Hall on the UCLA campus. The conference will feature panel discussions among some of the nation’s foremost authorities in the field of criminal justice. “Overall, crime in California--which peaked in 1980 at the highest level ever--has dropped steadily since, although it still is unacceptably high,” Van de Kamp said. Conference attendance is by invitation only.
