Pay Settlement OKd for County Lawyers
A settlement of a 5-year-old pay dispute involving Los Angeles County lawyers was approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.
Under the $7.1-million agreement, which involved a lengthy lawsuit that the county lost, about 1,000 deputy district attorneys and deputy public defenders will receive lump sums of up to nearly $5,000 each.
Approval of a similar settlement with about 100 attorneys in the county counsel’s office is still pending.
In a separate matter, the board, citing a projected deficit in the current budget, postponed salary hikes scheduled to take effect April 1 for about 5,000 management personnel and other employees not represented by unions. The action will save about $1 million this year.
