Hawthorne-based Maxicare Health Plans Inc., the nation’s largest investor-owned health maintenance organization, said its president and chief executive, Fred W. Wasserman, has been elected to the additional post of chairman.
Wasserman, 49, replaces James A. McIntyre, who is president and chief executive of Los Angeles-based Fremont General Corp. McIntyre will remain a Maxicare director along with Alan Bloom, secretary and general counsel, and newly elected directors David Hallis, Howard Freedland and Pamela Anderson, who is Wasserman’s wife.
McIntyre, his father, L. E. McIntyre, and his brother, David McIntyre, served as directors and controlled Maxicare through their holdings in Fremont General until Fremont sold its 55.2% stake in Maxicare through a public offering last month.
