12 Jailed for Art Plunder in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary — Art thieves who plundered museums and churches throughout Hungary for 18 months have been given prison terms of up to 10 years, the official Hungarian news agency MTI said Saturday.
The west Hungarian court of Gyor-Sopron sentenced Gabor Papp, identified as the 20-year-old ringleader of the gang, to eight years, and his father, Ferenc Papp, an opera singer in Gyor, to 10 years, MTI said.
Ten other defendants, including composer Tibor Tamasi and singer Csaba Gergely, were given sentences of up to five years.
