Vice President George Bush said President Reagan’s veto of U.S. farm aid legislation that also contained $175 million in African famine relief casts no shadow over Bush’s current four-nation tour to show concern for African famine victims. Speaking in Sudan before flying to Niger, the vice president said U.S. spending to assist African drought victims already is at “unprecedented heights” and that the President has a duty to curb excessive spending as well as aid the hungry.
