Polish Authorities Summon Walesa to Face Strike Charges

WARSAW — Authorities today summoned Lech Walesa, founder of the outlawed Solidarity union, to appear at a state prosecutor’s office Saturday to face charges of calling a strike that was later canceled, his spokesman said.
Walesa could be sentenced to a maximum term of two years in jail if convicted.
The spokesman said Walesa received the written summons at his home in Gdansk informing him that he faces charges of inciting unrest for calling for a 15-minute general strike to protest food price hikes.
