The Santa Monica-Malibu Unifed School District is accepting applications for a 14-member task force that will study ways to improve the racial balance and academic performance of students at Edison Elementary School.
Minorities account for 81.2% of Edison’s students. Spanish is the first language of 60% of the student body. The school’s standardized test scores are below the district average.
The task force will include parents, community leaders, teachers, district officials and specialists in bilingual education. The group is scheduled to report to the school board June 15.
Applications are available at district schools or at the district Office of Curriculum, 1723 Fourth St. The filing deadline is March 18.
