Schermerhorn Wins in Irvine Track Meet
USC freshman Eric Schermerhorn won the 800-meter run in a four-team, non-scoring track meet Saturday at UC Irvine.
The former Woodbridge High School runner, who was timed in 1:52.7, was one of eight Trojan winners. John Wolitarsky set a USC record in the hammer throw with a 219-foot 2-inch toss, and Antonio Manning won the 200 in 21.2 seconds for the Trojans.
Irvine’s Todd Funk won the 110 high hurdles in 14.6, and teammate Todd Andrews was second in 14.7.
Cal State Northridge’s Gary Jackson won the 100 in 10.5 and the long jump with a 24-2 1/2 mark.
Ben Stewart (48.6 in the 400) and Andrew Dove (6-6 in the high jump) were winners for Cal Poly Pomona.
Fresno State women’s team beat Irvine, 82-45. UCLA athletes also competed but were not included in team scoring.
Irvine’s Jennifer Abraham set a meet record with a 9:38.6 in the 3,000. Abraham also won the 1,500, clocking 4:42.8. Teammate Lori Shanoff was second in the 3,000 (9:59.9) and 1,500 (4:45.9).
