Keith Smith Scores 28 Points to Lead Loyola Marymount Past St. Mary’s
Guard Keith Smith scored 28 points, including 20 in the second half, to lead Loyola Marymount to a 67-48 West Coast Athletic Conference victory over St. Mary’s Friday night at Moraga, Calif.
Center Steve Haderlein had 12 points and 14 rebounds for Loyola.
Loyola Marymount led, 32-21, at halftime, but the Gaels pulled within four points with 9:30 left to play. However, Smith responded with six consecutive points to rebuild the lead to 46-38, and the Lions were never threatened again.
St. Mary’s center David Cooke led his team with 17 points, and forward Eric Cooks added 12. Loyola Marymount is 10-12 overall and 2-5 in WCAC play. St. Mary’s is 12-10, 4-3.
