San Diego Prep Basketball : Poway Routs Mt. Carmel in Regular-Season Finale
SAN DIEGO — Poway High School’s boys basketball team ended the regular season on a strong note, trouncing Palomar League rival Mount Carmel, 87-56, Friday.
Poway, the defending 3-A champion, has an 11-1 record in league and 21-1 overall.
Five of the Titans scored in double figures: Dominick Johnson (19), Jud Buechler (16), Gary Anderson (15), John Colborne (14) and Andy Byrne (12).
The Titans, who hit 34 of 61 shots (56%) from the floor, also had 10 rebounds from Johnson and 9 from Colborne.
Jim Tejeck led the Sundevils (7-5, 10-13) with 12 points.
Elsewhere in the Palomar League:
Vista 68, Fallbrook 50--The Panthers (8-4, 13-10) outscored the Warriors, 15-4, in the first quarter and coasted to a victory at Vista. Ron Howard had a game-high 19 points. Ray Muldrew added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Mike Jones scored 11. Paul Dixon topped Fallbrook (3-9, 3-17) with 14.
AVOCADO LEAGUE San Pasqual 63, Carlsbad 51--After scoring the first point, the Lancers never led again in the loss at San Pasqual. Rich Prusinski scored 15 points for San Pasqual (6-6, 13-12) and Jeff Baglio had 12.
Robert McGrew scored 14 for the Lancers (6-6, 12-10). Scott Porter had 11.
Escondido 56, San Marcos 49--The Cougars (4-8, 5-15) earned their third straight victory in league games. Darin Sommer had 30 points and 13 rebounds for Escondido. Greg Helm had 15 for San Marcos (0-12, 3-18).
