Egypt Urges Israel to Be Positive on Peace
ASWAN, Egypt — The government Thursday urged Israel to respond favorably to the Jordanian-Palestinian accord on a framework for Mideast peace and asked the United States to use its influence to achieve progress on the issue.
“Israel must match this new Arab position in a positive spirit and not with the negative slogans that Israel always issues to try and cast doubt on Arab intentions,†presidential adviser Osama Baz told reporters here.
He added that the United States is committed to an active role in Mideast peace efforts and has “a special responsibility†because of its relationship with Israel.
