Sunset League : Howard Leads Huntington Beach Upset Over Edison

Senior point guard Anthony Howard scored 20 points Friday night to lead Huntington Beach High School to a 58-47 upset win over Edison in a Sunset League game in the Oilers’ gym.

The win improved Huntington Beach’s league record to 3-5 and overall record to 8-11. Edison is 5-3 and 12-7.

Huntington Beach led, 26-21, at halftime and then outscored Edison, 17-10, in the third quarter to take a 43-31 lead into the final quarter. Forward John Hanavan added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Oilers. Mike McConnell led the Chargers with 16 points.

HUNTINGTON BEACH (58)--Howard 20, Schutz 4, Hanavan 13, Snow 12, Harrigan 9.

Ocean View 65, Marina 50--Guard Mike Labat led all scorers with 17 points and Blaine DeBrouwer added 16 for the Seahawks at Marina. Tony Panzica added 12 for Ocean View (8-0, 19-3).

John Pi had 13 for the Vikings.

Fountain Valley 65, Westminster 47--The Barons outscored the Lions, 25-8, in the third quarter to pull away for the win at the Baron gym. Carlos Briceno led Fountain Valley with 16 points. Brett Martin added 14 points for the Barons. Eric Schurman of Westminster led all scorers with 19 points.
