A Northwest Orient Airlines flight from Honolulu landed at Los Angeles International Airport safely early Friday after one of its four engines was shut down because of an indication that it was overheating, airport officials said.

The 747 jumbo jet with 234 passengers aboard was scheduled to stop in Los Angeles, then continue to Minneapolis. The engine malfunction caused the plane to be grounded at Los Angeles airport when it landed at 2:25 a.m. Passengers were put on later flights to continue the trip.
