Laguna Niguel Skier Found Safe After Losing Way Near Lake Tahoe
A skier from Laguna Niguel, missing overnight during a snowstorm in the mountains north of Lake Tahoe, was found in good condition early Friday.
James Carol, 27, was less than half a mile from a major ski resort when he was discovered at 3:40 a.m., huddled under a bridge, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Department.
Although wet and cold after the subfreezing night, Carol was reported in good condition, suffering only from minor frostbite.
He had last been seen about 2 p.m. Thursday in the Mt. Pluto area of the North Star ski resort. At 6:30 p.m., he was reported missing and became the object of a snowmobile search by the Tahoe search and rescue team, Nordic skiers, a ski patrol and North Star security personnel.
A sheriff’s spokesman said Carol became lost when he apparently thought he was on one ski run when he was actually on another.
