Two men were being held in Costa Mesa City Jail Friday on $50,000 bail each on suspicion of selling nine ounces of cocaine to undercover officers, police said.

Jesus M. Gutierrez, 35, of Santa Ana and Alex Leon, 21, of Los Angeles were arrested Thursday and booked into the jail on suspicion of sale and possession for sale of cocaine, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Tom Boylan said.

He said that Gutierrez, a welder, and Leon, a maintenance man, were armed when they were arrested at an informant’s apartment in Costa Mesa.

The informant, whom police did not identify, allegedly told undercover narcotics officers Wednesday that they could purchase cocaine from the two suspects, Boylan said.

The officers contacted the men and arranged to meet them Thursday at the informant’s apartment, Boylan said.

When arrested, Boylan said, the suspects were armed with a loaded .44-caliber Magnum handgun and a 9-millimeter semiautomatic pistol.
