American Express renamed some businesses.

The largest subsidiaries being renamed are Shearson Lehman Bros., formerly Shearson Lehman/American Express, and IDS Financial Services, formerly IDS/American Express. Both units will continue to use the American Express “blue box” logo. The New York-based company said that the wholly owned subsidiaries were renamed in a new initiative aimed at sharpening the company’s strategic marketing focus on its brand names, multiple channels of product distribution and specifically targeted market segments.
