Ex-Times Writer Sid Bernstein Dies
William Sidney Bernstein, who wrote editorials and covered local government for The Times, has died after a long illness.
Bernstein, 67, died Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Sinai Chapel, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive.
A native of Sheffield, Ala., Bernstein was raised in St. Louis. During World War II, Bernstein, rising to the rank of master sergeant, served in the Army in the Southwest Pacific and participated in several Pacific campaigns. After the war, he graduated from USC with a degree in journalism and worked on several local newspapers before joining The Times in 1962. He retired two years ago.
Bernstein is survived by his wife, Grace, of Simi Valley and his sister, Winifred Bernstein of Beverly Hills.
