Groups to Share Profits From Fair
Two groups will share the $11,500-profit from “Westwood Welcomes the World,†a community fair staged during the Olympic Games.
Upward Bound, a six-week summer program at UCLA designed to encourage minority students to attend college, will receive $4,000. The Red Cross will receive $7,500 for its leadership development program, in which high school students attend a retreat and then return to lead projects in their communities.
Most of the profits from the Olympic welcome center come from corporate sponsors, according to a spokesman. Booths, displays and light shows on the lawn of the Westwood federal building welcomed Olympic visitors last summer.
