Alatorre to Run for Snyder’s Seat, Aide Announces
Assemblyman Richard Alatorre (D-Los Angeles) will run for the Los Angeles City Council’s 14th District seat to be vacated July 1 by the expected resignation of Arthur K. Snyder, a top Alatorre aide said Tuesday.
Snyder announced his impending resignation last week, citing personal pressures, including recent allegations that he molested his 9-year-old daughter several years ago.
Richard Polanco, the top local aide to Alatorre, said the 13-year East Los Angeles lawmaker “is definitely a candidate.†Lou Moret, a close friend of Alatorre who received the assemblyman’s support for the seat in an unsuccessful recall election last year, said Tuesday that he is considering a run for city controller.
Alatorre would not comment but said through a spokeswoman that he will issue a statement by the end of the week.
