David R. Carpenter, 45, president and chief executive of Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance Co., has been given the additional title of chairman, the Los Angeles-based company said Tuesday.
He succeeds Meno T. Lake, 65, who retired from the company Sept. 1.
Carpenter was elected chief executive in September, 1983, after being named president in June, 1982. Transamerica Occidental Life, with more than $111 billion of life insurance in force, is one of the nation’s largest insurance companies. It is a unit of San Francisco-based Transamerica Corp.
