Yemen’s Defense Ministry said Friday that another American militant linked to Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula died in the air strike that killed U.S.-born cleric Anwar Awlaki, according to the Associated Press.
U.S. officials told AP they believed Samir Khan -- a U.S. citizen of Pakistani heritage who produced the English-language Al Qaeda web magazine Inspire, which provided instructions on staging attacks -- was in the convoy carrying Awlaki when it was struck Friday in the Marib region of northern Yemen. But they said they were still trying to confirm his death.
The deaths would be the latest in a series of military operations worldwide that have targeted Al Qaeda leaders, including the killing of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan by U.S. forces in May.
U.S. officials have not said what role, if any, U.S. drones or missiles may have played in an attack.
