Long Beach Poly Coach Sharrief Metoyer will serve a one-year suspension and not coach the team during the 2013-14 season as punishment for playing an ineligible player during last season’s state playoffs.

GazettesSports.com first reported the decision made by Poly administrators and the school district, and that was confirmed by co-principal Joe Carlson.

The Southern Section and the state CIF have accepted the punishment.

JV Coach Shelton Diggs will be the interim coach.

Metoyer will continue as a teacher at the school and be suspended from coaching from April 1 of this year until April 1 of next year.
