Football: San Fernando wins first title since 1975

Cristian Solano ran for two touchdowns and completed 15 of 22 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns to help San Fernando hold off Canoga Park, 42-35, in the City Section Division II championship game at East Los Angeles College. It was San Fernando’s first title since win 4-A in 1975.

The Tigers held a 42-14 lead in the fourth quarter, but Canoga Park quarterback Alex Dion fired touchdown passes of 19 yards to Josh Rivas, 42 yards to Jeremie Ruelle and 29 yards to Rivas, forcing San Fernando to run out the clock. Dion completed 30 of 41 passes for 415 yards and four touchdowns. Hector Garcia had four sacks and a forced fumble.

Daemon Thompson had two interceptions and a touchdown for the Tigers (12-2), who also received two touchdown receptions from Charles Bell.

‘It’s incredible the feeling I have right now,’ said San Fernando first-year Coach Robert Garcia.
