As soon as outfielder Ty Moore graduated from Santa Ana Mater Dei and pitcher James Kaprielian finished classes at Irvine Beckman, they packed their bags and headed for Wenatchee, Wa., to play in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League.
They were joined by UC Irvine sophomore Taylor Sparks, a former standout at St. John Bosco. It was a long summer but the Wenatchee Applesox won the league title on Saturday night. Moore, Kaprielian and Sparks played important roles.
Sparks had three RBIs in the championship win and led the the team in hitting with a .388 average. Moore hit .305. Kaprielian had a 1.80 ERA.
Moore and Kaprielian will be counted on to become key contributors as freshmen when they arrive at UCLA this fall. Sparks should be one of the best players at Irvine.
Now they get to return to Southern California and have a real vacation before classes begin.
