Baseball: Max Fried pitches one inning in pro debut

Former Harvard-Westlake pitcher Max Fried, a first-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres, made his professional debut on Monday in the Arizona League.

Fried pitched one inning and allowed one hit while striking out one and walking two against the Athletics, which won, 5-2.

The winning pitcher was former Crespi standout Tyler Johnson, who threw one inning in relief and struck out one while giving up one hit for the Athletics. Johnson was a 33rd-round pick out of Stony Brook.
