The Foothill League, made up of six schools from the William S. Hart Union High School District, has decided to impose a stricter transfer policy than the new revisions approved by the CIF.

The new transfer rules from the CIF allow students to become eligible without moving on Oct. 1, Dec. 31 and April 1 depending on their sport.

But the Foothill League is sticking with the old policy of athletes having to sit out a year if they switch schools within the league without moving. Students who change addresses and move into the league will still have to sit out 30 days.

Greg Lee, director of human resources, said, ‘We are concerned that a relaxed transfer policy might result in the emergence of schools that are super-dominant in a particular sport. If that kind of success comes about naturally, that’s great, but we don’t want schools to become powerhouses because of creative transfers.’

The Foothill League is made up of Hart, Valencia, West Ranch, Golden Valley, Canyon and Saugus.
