Boys’ basketball: Pasadena advances to semifinals in Fairfax tournament

Pasadena’s trio of guards _ Andre Spight, Ajon Efferson and sophomore Jeffrey McClendon _ are playing outstanding basketball.
They led the Bulldogs to a 75-68 victory over Fairfax to advance to the semifinals of the Fairfax tournament. Spight scored 28 points, Efferson 21 and McClendon 13, including four three-pointers. Pasadena made 21 of 23 free throws.
Fairfax received 21 points from Reggie Theus Jr. and 18 from Chaunce Hill.
Pasadena will play Harvard-Westlake in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. semifinal. Harvard-Westlake defeated Chaminade, 67-55. Derrick Newton scored 19 points and Michael Sheng 16.
In a consolation game, St. John Bosco defeated Santa Monica, 67-66. Orange Lutheran transfer Darien Williams scored 29 points. Loyola defeated La Canada, 73-50, with Trey Mason scoring 19 points.
In Thursday’s quarterfinals, it will be Mater Dei playing El Camino Real at 8:30 p.m. and Orange Lutheran facing Long Beach Poly at 7 p.m.
