Compton cruised to the championship of the Watts Summer Games gold division with a 73-55 victory over Newhall Hart on Saturday at Cal State Dominguez. Beware of Compton’s trio of juniors.
Point guard Kyron Cartwright was named tournament MVP. Guard Isaiah Bailey scored 19 points and guard Iziahiah Sweeney had 18 points. All three are juniors.
‘Senior year, it’s just going to be ridiculous,’ Bailey said.
Cartwright got the MVP award for his court leadership and defensive skills over the last two weekends. He helped shut down Hart point guard Myles Franklin.
In the silver division final, University defeated Huntington Park, 80-56. Breamon Richard scored 21 points and Arvis Greene 19.
