North Hollywood Campbell Hall made the decision on Friday to not have a varsity football team for the 2012 season because of dwindling numbers. The school will have junior varsity football.
First-year Coach Scott Napier, hired from L.A. Windward, said he understands the decision but intends to put together a competitive schedule for the remaining players to prepare for a return to varsity football in 2013.
Several players have already transferred to other schools as word leaked out about whether Campbell Hall would have a varsity team this season.
Napier said he is putting together a top staff of assistant coaches that includes former UCLA defensive player Reggie Carter.
‘It’s a new beginning,’ Napier said.
