His name is Jose Estrada, a junior guard at Montebello Cantwell Sacred Heart, and he scored 47 points on Monday in a 76-70 victory over Chatsworth Sierra Canyon.
It was the second time this season Estrada has scored 47 points in a game for Cantwell Sacred Heart, which was 2-25 last season but is 14-1 this season under first-year Coach George Zedan.
Estrada moved to the area from Mexico over the summer, and Zedan said he’s a member of the Mexican 17-and-under national team.
‘He’s a Division I kid,’ Zedan said.
The 6-foot-3 Estrada is averaging more than 30 points a game, and recruiters from UCLA and USC were at the game on Monday.
‘He allows us to compete against some pretty decent competition,’ Zedan said.
